ARES remembers our friend and fellow operator, Michael Condon, W9MNC.
Mike lived a life of service. He served first in the United States Army and later in the United States Air Force, and that spirit of service stayed with him throughout his life.
For many years, Mike served the emergency communications community here in Marion County through MERT and ARES. He served as an operator, trainer, Net Control, Winlink instructor, and Emergency Coordinator of Marion County ARES.
On a personal note, Mike was the Emergency Coordinator who came before me. When I accepted this position, I was following in the footsteps of W9MNC – and that makes saying goodbye especially difficult.
Mike shared his knowledge freely, helped other operators grow, and could be counted on when there was work to be done.
His voice may no longer come across the radio, but the people he trained, the systems he helped support, and the friendships he made remain with us.
We remember W9MNC not only as a radio operator, but as a veteran, a leader, a teacher, a volunteer, and our friend.
